About Mimmie

I have been involved in education for more than 45 years which hopefully gives an indication of my love for students. Even though I’m retired, teaching is my passion. Currently I serve as the head facilitator and programme developer of The Paragon Generation “Edutech Master Learner” programme (www.learn2learn.co.za). We equip students in effective study skills and techniques and train teachers in creative methodology. Its great fun, for there’s always “something new”. It has always been my challenge to be creative, innovative and practical in order to make learning fun, so there’s no “dull and boring” lessons here.

My husband, Francois, loves research and has a rich knowledge of local and world history. He loves hiking up Table Mountain and you’re sure to join him to achieve the title “I’ve Been There”. Having an adventurous spirit, we love traveling, sightseeing and visiting interesting places. We’re young at heart and hold the view that “age is all in the mind”. We have five adult children and we’re grateful to have 7 grandchildren. Our children unfortunately live in other provinces far from us, with our youngest son living in Portland USA.

We used to farm with fruit and livestock in Mpumalanga in South Africa. In 2001 we were invited to teach in Mainland China. I was an English Foreign Language lecturer at three prominent universities in Changchun and taught Basic English Skills, American Culture and History, and how to be proactive in career building.

Having gained valuable knowledge of various cultures, and understanding the emotions of not being in your native country, there’s no doubt that foreign students are welcomed with heartfelt South African hospitality. We regard hosting foreign students as returning the favour of the hospitality and love we experienced in China.

About the Local Area

We live in a “close” (no traffic running past our house) in Brackenfell, Cape Town. We’re 30km away from the airport, the beach, Cape Town city, the amazing mountains and the lush winelands – thus ideally situated central to all the scenic and famous South Africa attractions in the Western Cape province.
We’re walking distance from our main shopping centers and cinemas.
Our local schools are within 5 -10 minutes drive from our home – depending on the traffic

Security:
Our home is safe guarded with an alarm system, high walls and burglar bars. We have a security company doing regular patrols and a neighborhood watch of which my husband is an active member. Our suburb is quiet and we’re surrounded with supportive neighbours who mostly work from their homes.
