About Margita

My name is Margita and I have been teaching English to foreign students of all levels
and nationalities for over 25 years within language schools and one to one tutoring.
My experience ranges from tutoring students for exams, business reasons or just for
the acquisition of another language. I can assess very quickly what works best for the
individual and adapt my lessons accordingly, whilst encouraging and gently
nurturing their progress. In learning a new language, motivation and perseverance
are utmost so making lessons interesting and fun I feel is key to building confidence
and encouraging students to excel. I have a master`s degree in comparative
linguistics which gives me a significant advantage in understanding how the English
language works. I focus on a student`s individual ability and build on their existing
skills to be able use the language confidently and accurately in all areas whether this
be speaking, listening, writing or reading. With home tutoring, students will benefit,
learning in a friendly, relaxed environment. I live with my partner and our two
teenage children (the oldest daughter lives and studies abroad). We live in a large
house by the sea in Kent. My children go to secondary school and are bilingual.
We are experienced hosts and have had many students of varying ages and
nationalities to stay with us who have all thoroughly enjoyed their stay. We are a
quiet home and enjoy arts and crafts, gardening, walking, music and films and the
children enjoy playing the PS4. When weather permits we spend lots of time by the
sea which is a two minute walk from our house. We love going for trips and exploring
places of interest, local sights and the beautiful countryside. We enjoy family dinners
and conversation about our day. We like pets though at present only have budgies.

About the Local Area

We live in a large Victorian house by the sea in, Herne Bay, Kent. The town has a lovely sea
front with pebble beaches, pier and the tallest clock tower in the UK. It is a quiet town during
winter months but that, changes every summer when you can enjoy many festivals, summer
fairs and an impressive air show. The town is well connected by public transport either to
Canterbury or London and all stations or stops are within walking distance. If you enjoy
shopping, the closest shopping centre is Westwood Cross about 30 min by car. Herne
Bay has got a variety of shops, a cinema, library, sports facilities and a swimming pool. There
is a range of interesting antique shops.

Excursions available with Margita

We enjoy coastal walks and like driving to small seaside towns like Whitstable, Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs, all along the South East coast. Whitstable is a vibrant fishing village with a working harbour where you can taste local
oysters and shop in many interesting quirky shops. It also has impressive live music scene,
art community and immensely popular summer festival. Margate is a re-emerging, well
known Victorian sea side town which is working hard to regain its former glory – its Tate
Modern Gallery is worth a visit. Ramsgate has an impressive marina and harbour with a
great coffee place right at the end. Canterbury, a historic medieval town with impressive
cathedral, is a fifteen minute drive from us. We love visiting the shops and coffee
places. London is a short distance on the train which will take you directly into the centre.
You can spend a lifetime in London and never tire of it – we usually visit all the known sights
and galleries, but also parks and markets. However one of our favourite activities from when
my children were young is feeding squirrels in St James’ park!  But the ultimate treat in the
region is nearby, Dover castle which is the largest castle in the UK and will give you the sense
of British history combined with its magnificent views over the English Channel from the
famous white cliffs.
