About Heather

I am a qualified primary school teacher and have taught in the UK, Austria, Switzerland, Oman and the U.A.E. I am married with two children. I have taught English to international students over a number of years. I am looking forward to welcoming people from a wide variety of countries into my family home. I have travelled extensively in Asia and Europe and really enjoy learning about different cultures.
When I lived in Geneva, I improved my French by attending a language school and after four years was able to communicate well in the language. Two years ago, I went to live in Austria and learned German with a private tutor and I now speak good conversational German which I keep up regularly. I was fully involved in the local village activities, in Austria including the local choir and became a popular English teacher in kindergartens, volkschule and secondary schools there. Having learned two languages and especially German as a beginner, I understand what is needed to teach English effectively and I plan to teach innovative English lessons to my homestay students.

My husband is a former Principal of an international school. He has a lot of experience with international teenagers in schools in the UK and abroad. Having worked in boarding schools, he is used to teaching and leading activities with international students. He also has experience of working in English language summer camps and knows the importance of balancing the learning of English with fun activities. He is fond of travelling and has hiked in various mountain ranges throughout the world. He also keeps up with football, his team being Manchester United. Together, we enjoy cooking good food.

My boys have participated in private and school exchanges so I have had many foreign students to stay at home. They are both keen football supporters and also enjoy keeping up with current affairs and playing squash and football.

All students will have a very enjoyable time staying with us. I will find out what activities they like and take them on excursions that will be suited to them. We live in a comfortable house near Oxford and there are plenty of things to do and see in the surrounding area.
