I am an English teacher and I also teach piano. I have taught ages from 5 to 85 years, in large classes and to individual students. I have found that the greatest progress in learning can be achieved when teaching 1:1 or 2:1. For this reason I have moved away from mainstream classroom education to teaching individuals. My lessons are entertaining and educational!
I live with my partner Simon in a large converted barn called The Store with our two dogs Dusty and Spooky. We have two grown-up children, Phoebe and Jasmine who also live in Cornwall. The Store has a large downstairs area that I have set aside for each student who stays with us.
I was born in Cornwall and and my mission is to give each student a real taste of Cornish life, to fill them with confidence in using the English language and to feel part of a friendly family throughout their stay.
I love cooking and believe in eating a healthy plant- based diet. We have an allotment where we grow lots of organic fruit and vegetables for the table.
I am a qualified teacher (PGCE) with an honours degree in Geography. I am qualified to teach English to speakers of other languages (Cert Tesol). I have had experience in teaching in primary schools and in higher education at Cornwall College where I have taught English to GCSE level. I also work as a tutor for Cornwall Tutors providing 1:1 English lessons.
Recently my husband and I self-published ‘Cornwall Uncovered’; a pictorial map and website that is packed with information about Cornwall’s history, heritage, wildlife and places to explore. http://www.cornwalluncovered.org. The map visually puts together the sum of all Cornwall’s many parts; illustrating the wonderful tapestry of the human and natural environments and leaving clues and ‘breadcrumbs’ for further discovery.
I love nature, playing the piano, walking, gardening, horse riding and exploring Cornwall and I am happy to share these experiences with my students who come to stay.

About the Local Area
Cornwall is the perfect place to stay and study. It has the mildest climate in the UK, 476 km of beautiful coastline, with countless beaches and coves to explore. There are lots of pretty fishing villages and towns that border the coastline such as St Ives, Mevagissey and Looe. Further inland the countryside is made up of a patchwork of green fields and rivers with rugged moors and rocky tors covering the high ground. Cornwall is criss-crossed with a network of footpaths and trails including the South-west coast path providing public access all around the Cornish coast.
Excursions available with Greta
There is so much to see and do in Cornwall. If you like walking then there are hundreds of wonderful circular walks to choose from with fantastic views. If you like shopping I can take you to Truro, Falmouth or Penzance for a fun shopping experience. If you like history, then there are several National Trust properties such as Trerice or Lanhydrock which are must sees. There are ruined castles to visit, museums and art galleries, gardens such as Heligan and the world famous Eden Project. In the summer there are horse and dog shows, agricultural shows, festivals and fetes for you to enjoy. We have a strong music tradition too with Cornish dancing events held around the region.
