I was born and grew up in East London, very near to where I live now. However, I did leave for a few years when I worked in many worldwide travel destinations only to come back to my roots earlier this year having spent time in the Caribbean. One of my biggest passions in life is theatre and I go often. I also love tennis – but just watching now as my playing days are behind me. I am a huge Rafa Nadal fan; I also support our two British players Andy Murray and Kyle Edmund.
Working in travel and education has afforded me wonderful opportunities to meet a whole range of interesting people from very diverse backgrounds and provided me with rich pickings for the characters in the seven novels, two novellas, two books of short stories and numerous plays and film scripts I have written. But please don’t worry! If you come to learn with me you won’t end up in one of my books – unless you want to, of course.
I have a beautiful grown-up daughter who lives in Ibiza who I visit as often as I am able.
My home – a four-bedroom, three storey house – is comfortable and welcoming and I hope you will be happy in your home from home. I have fifteen years experience in teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language, many of those as a host. I have taught all levels from complete beginners through to under-graduates, including Business and Medical English.
Classes are relaxed and entirely tailored to your needs and goals. Of course, we won’t be classroom-bound; I will take you out and about so that you get a full-English experience.

About the Local Area
My home is in Dagenham, East London. It is a multi-cultural working-class area now. Originally it was a small village – just the Norman church and the old pub, the Cross Keys, remain. In 1920s much of the land was taken up to build housing for those living in poor conditions in London and for many years it was the largest social housing project in the world. There is a museum in the only original Manor House left (there were five) – Valence House. Nearby there are several parks, a small theatre and multi-screen cinemas. The historic, market town of Romford which offers a street-market three days a week, a good selection of restaurants, pubs, shops and entertainment is a short bus-ride away. There are also excellent transport links into Central London and the famous Essex seaside towns of Southend, Leigh and Westcliff. A half-hour drive takes us into the Essex countryside with its typical, picturesque pubs and beautiful Epping forest. Lakeside Shopping Centre is a twenty-minute drive away.
Excursions available with Elaine
I am happy to accompany students to the coast; the seafood in Leigh is excellent and there’s nothing more English than fish and chips in Southend. Central London has much to offer, especially for shows and plays in the West End and fringe theatres, boat trips along the Thames and visits to all the well-known tourist attractions. I can also take students further afield to places such as Cambridge and Windsor should they so desire. I often see shows at our local theatre – the Queen’s in Hornchurch – many of which are part of national tours or pre-West End and am more than happy for my student to join me.
